Organic Baby Clothes Checklist — What You Actually Need

The baby clothing industry is very good at making you feel like you need everything. You don't. Here's the honest list of what you actually need — and what you can skip entirely.

The Essential Organic Baby Clothes Checklist

Newborn to 6 Months

  • 6–8 Bodysuits (mix of short and long sleeve) — worn daily, outgrown quickly
  • 3–4 Rompers (snap or zip) — for easy full-body dressing
  • 2–3 Sleep Sacks — one to wear, one in the wash, one spare
  • 3–4 Pairs of Baby Pants/Joggers — for layering over bodysuits
  • 2–3 Baby Caps — newborns lose heat through their heads
  • 2 Pairs of Mittens — to prevent scratching in the early weeks
  • 3–4 Pairs of Socks — always disappearing, always needed
  • 1–2 Blankets — for wrapping, not for the cot

6–24 Months

  • 4–6 T-Shirts (mix of short and long sleeve)
  • 3–4 Tunics or Dresses for girls
  • 3–4 Pairs of Leggings (stripe and solid)
  • 2–3 Pairs of Joggers
  • 3–4 Bodysuits for layering

2T–5T Toddlers

  • 5–6 T-Shirts
  • 2–3 Tunics
  • 3–4 Pairs of Leggings or Joggers
  • 2–3 Pairs of Socks

What You Can Skip

  • Newborn size anything — outgrown in 2–3 weeks. Buy 0-3m instead
  • Shoes before walking — bare feet or soft socks are better for development
  • More than 2–3 of any one item — babies grow fast, buy less per size
  • Dry-clean only items — you'll be doing laundry every day
