When we started Dew and Dove, we made a decision early on that shaped everything that came after: every garment we sell would be GOTS certified. Not "made with organic cotton." Not "naturally dyed." GOTS certified — the full standard, independently verified, across the entire supply chain.
That decision cost more. It took longer. It ruled out some manufacturers we would otherwise have worked with. We made it anyway, and here's why.
We Didn't Want to Make Promises We Couldn't Keep
The baby clothing market is full of words like "natural," "eco-friendly," and "organic." Most of them aren't regulated. A brand can print "organic cotton" on a label with zero independent verification. The cotton might be organically grown, but the dyeing, finishing, and manufacturing could involve the same chemicals as any conventional garment.

We didn't want to be that brand. If we were going to tell parents that our clothing was safe for their babies' skin, we needed a way to prove it — not just say it. GOTS certification is that proof. Third-party auditors verify every step from the cotton field to the finished garment.
Babies Deserve the Real Thing
A newborn spends most of their day in a bodysuit. A toddler wears leggings and a t-shirt from morning to bedtime. These aren't occasional garments — they're the fabric of early childhood, literally touching a baby's skin through every nap, every meal, every adventure.

Baby skin is more permeable than adult skin. It absorbs more, reacts more, and has less capacity to process chemical exposures. The idea of a baby mouthing a sleeve finished with formaldehyde-based resins bothered us. We wanted to remove that concern entirely — not reduce it, eliminate it.
It Makes Us Better
GOTS certification isn't a one-time achievement. It requires annual re-certification, ongoing documentation, and supply chain transparency. It keeps us accountable in ways that a self-made claim never could. That accountability has made us more careful, more thoughtful, and more demanding of our manufacturing partners.
Where We Land on Accessories
Our hair accessories — clips, ties, and hairbands — sit outside GOTS certification because they're not fabric. We're honest about that. What we can tell you: our clips use a metal clamp construction that gives them a secure, quality hold — lightweight enough that kids don't notice them, but firm enough that they actually stay put all day. The colors are bright and fun, and kids genuinely want to wear them.

What This Means for You
When you buy from Dew and Dove, you're not taking our word for it. You're relying on an independent certification body that has physically inspected our supply chain and verified that our products meet the highest standard in organic textile production. That's the promise we made from day one. It's one we intend to keep.
